Juan Luis Torres Martínez
Born in the vibrant Mexico City, Juan Luis Torres Martínez discovered his artistic vocation at an early age. It was during his secondary education that his art teachers recognized his extraordinary talent for dance. This discovery marked the beginning of a career that would lead him to share the stage with some of Mexico’s most prestigious institutions.
From his first steps into the world of dance, Juan was invited to collaborate with renowned professional companies such as the National Folkloric Dance Company, the National School of Fine Arts, and the Mexico City School of Dance. At the young age of 14, he began performing on some of the most iconic stages in the country, including the National Auditorium, the City Theater, and the Grand Palace of Fine Arts, accumulating over 3,500 performances throughout his career.
His talent was not confined to the borders of his country. Over the course of his career, Juan participated in more than 40 international artistic tours, bringing the richness of Mexican folkloric dance to countries such as the United States, Canada, France, and many others. His dedication and passion for the arts made him a key figure in promoting and sharing Mexico’s culture abroad.
One of the most significant moments in his career was his close collaboration with the legendary Amalia Hernández, founder of the world-renowned Ballet Folklórico de México. For nearly a decade, Juan had the privilege of being one of her principal dancers, as well as serving as a teacher and coordinator within the company. “Having the opportunity to work alongside and learn from the greats of dance has been a treasure,” says Juan, describing his time with Hernández as one of the most enriching experiences of his life.
His journey not only reflects his technical expertise but also his commitment to the preservation and promotion of Mexican art and culture. Juan Luis Torres is undoubtedly an inspiring figure for new generations of dancers and artists, encouraging them to follow their passion with discipline, dedication, and a deep love for their roots.
